Our new apprentice Stuart discusses the importance of reuse.
As a keen environmentalist I'm delighted that everyone is far more aware of the importance of IT recycling. Following a number of government campaigns and increased media coverage, we're all encouraged to reuse, reduce and recycle our household waste. However, I've found that many people don't realise this can easily apply to electronic equipment too. Reducing e waste is the goal.
Rapid advances in technology and the constant introduction of new upgraded IT equipment,
adds to the increase in electrical and electronic waste (e-waste). And sadly, huge amounts of e-waste, such as old and unwanted IT equipment, is generated every year and is set to rise as we rely more and more on electronic devices.
It's vitally important to make our environment a cleaner place, conserving materials, saving energy and reducing the amount of rubbish sent to landfill. We can all help to reduce the impact on our Earth's resources and minimise the risk of preventing potentially hazardous waste from entering landfill and causing soil and water contamination.
This process is also known as the reuse of e waste. Vital for the future in terms of the environment and conservation of resources. Most governments have set strict rules in place to allow us to work towards these goals and ensure a better tomorrow can be achieved. After all, we consume technology now at a faster rate than ever before.
